Since this is my last post I would like to
talk about the importance of teaching geometry in Primary Education.
First, I want to point out that geometry
is a fundamental part of humans' culture and it is difficult to find contexts
in which geometry does not appear directly or indirectly.
Teaching geometry is also important
because our everyday verbal lenguage has many geometric terms, such as line,
point, parallel, etc... If we have to communicate with others about one
location, size or shape of something, the geometric terminology is fundamental.
On the other hand geometry is one of the
parts of Mathematics closest to the reality that surrounds us and that is why
its teaching is essential from the earliest stages of education to the last
ones.
So, as teachers, we must not forget to teach it in an entertaining way to achieve the best results in our students!
